The transcription directions state that if a word breaks across two pages to transcribe it in full on the first page. It doesn’t say what to do on the 2nd page. Would you also transcribe the same word in full on the 2nd page or just ignore it on the 2nd page?

Great question! Volunteers usually do what Henry suggests and don’t transcribe the word on the second page. I think that’s ultimately what we would advise as well so I’m going to update the instructions on the site to make that more clear.

I also leave the word off the 2nd page, but it gets tricky, because you can’t always tell it’s a partial word if you’re working on the 2nd page but didn’t work on the 1st page. When I come to a word that’s split across a page, after submitting page 1 for review, I make sure I go to the next page and transcribe that one as well so that the split word doesn’t get transcribed there. I.e., I never stop transcription with just the 1st page. I always make sure I do the next page as well. But I appreciate that more instructions will be added to clarify this so that if a reviewer runs across a “missing” half word, they make sure they go 1 page back to check that it’s a split word and not a missed word.
I leave the word off the second page, also. If I’m reviewing and the word repeated is the only questionable issue, I will approve and not reopen.
