You may have noticed that our new discussion forum allows for far more customization than our old forum platform did, especially when it comes to notifications. You will automatically receive an email notification when someone replies to your post or tags you in a reply. But there maybe times when you want to receive notifications about other activity on the Community Forum.
One of the ways to do this is to set up notifications for a particular topic or category. A category is the highest level of organization on the platform - you can find the categories from the menu on the left side of the page or on the forum homepage. Community Managers set these up and they include things like “Transcription How-Tos” or “Cool Finds.” A topic is a post inside of a category, like "Advice for new volunteers?"
To get notifications for any and all topics in a category or any and all replies in a topic, look for the bell icon. In a category, you can find it at the top of the page.
On a topic, you can find it on the right side of the page.
Click on the bell icon and it will give you several notification options - from “Watching” (receive notifications for every new topic or reply) to “Muted” (receive no notifications for new topics or replies). Select the notification level that makes the most sense for you!
