Whether you’re a seasoned pro from our History Hub space or a total newbie, we’re happy to have you here! Feel free to introduce yourself in this topic/thread to (re)connect with fellow By the People volunteers ![]()
Hey all! It’s so amazing to be back with you all. I know we all miss history hub, but I hope we’re all able to make a new home here.
I’m logging on from Washington, D.C., where I’ve been with the Library since 2015. What else for intros…my favorite color is yellow? The latest book I’ve finished is Caro Claire Burke’s ‘Yesteryear.’
I hope this new space can be useful for all of us - please pop any feedback you have for us over in the “Site Feedback” category - so glad to be here with you.
Hi! I’m Lauren and I’m another By the People community manager at the Library of Congress.
I joined the LC in 2018 to get this program up and running. Previously I worked in digital archives at DC Public Library where I loved getting to share local history with my fellow Washingtonians and I was a founding member of the DC Punk Archive team. I love to bike around DC and hunt for vintage housewares and clothing. My current read is The Antidote by Karen Russell.
I’m so excited to be back in conversation with our volunteers!
Welcome back everyone! It’s great to have a new place to chat with all of you on a more regular basis. I’m one of the By the People Community Managers and have been at the LOC for five years.
I’m also coming to you from Washington, DC but originally from Buffalo, NY and hold a strong love for South Bend, IN and Philadelphia, PA where I’ve also lived!
When I’m not working with the BTP team, you can find me exploring DC with my family (stopping of course to read every historical plaque along the way:), listening to audiobooks, and occasionally making it to yoga.
Good morning Crowd. I’ve been away from the LOC for a bit but am back now.
Hi all. I am glad we have a forum to communicate and am looking forward to it. I have been involved with BTP for 7 1/2 years.
Hi I’m Diane K from Venice Florida. I’ve been transcribing since around 2019 after I retired. My first campaign I worked on was a penmanship contest of letters written by Civil War vets who had lost their right arms during the war. I enjoy contributing and learning so much by working on such a variety of campaigns. My favorite items to transcribe are journals and letters.
Hi, everyone. Sara here. I started LOC transcribing after I retired, 2019 or so. I’ve lately (as in …for a year+) been working on Walt Whitman materials. Glad there’s a forum we can use again.
Greetings one and all! I’ve been an occasional contributor to this laudable project on and off since my retirement from the University of Massachusetts Amherst libraries in 2020. Since then and along with this LC-related volunteer work, I’ve been working on cataloging several thousand Russian-language books for the Amherst College Center for Russian Culture, coordinating the Five College Faculty Seminar on Book History, and contributing indexing records to the Modern Language Association International Bibliography. In times past when I worked at the Gelman Library at George Washington University I had the pleasant geographic location of being just a few Metro stops from LC. By the way, my name is Jim.
Hello, it’s nice to meet you all! I’m Jenny/Jen, and I just started contributing to BYP earlier this year. I currently work as a technical writer in New England, but I have always been interested in archives/libraries and hope to become more involved with them. I’ve been especially enjoying the sheet music transcription campaigns as I love music/music history.
